disassembling a life

one last boring pre-departure post from NYC...

my apartment is a disaster. the contents of my cabinets and closets emptied onto the floor to make way for the girl who will stay here this summer. my brother is coming in minutes to take me to see the folks. with so much more to do in so little time, i'm strangely calmer about the trip than i have felt in weeks.

tomorrow morning I defend my dissertation prospectus. holy critter crap! I guess it will be fine but I'm anxious. for the unfamiliar, I wrote up this proposal over the last semester and will sit and defend it to a committee of four professors who ask questions, suss out if I'm prepared, and decide if the project is viable. so they say yea or nay and I run off to start the research or rethink my approach.

pre-departure panic

I thought I was on top of everything - tickets, housing, a subletter. It's all fallen through in the last week, except the non-refundable tickets, of course, which cement the trip - ready or not.
